Placo (Pty) Limited has grown from the Pretoria
Light Aircraft Company which
was founded in 1936. With the boom in general aviation in the late
60's, the Placo head office and centre of operations was moved to Rand Airport, Germiston in 1968 which was at the time the busiest general aviation centre in South Africa. Placo was among the first international dealers appointed by Piper. Nature of Business Our core business is the importation and sale of new and pre owned aircraft as well as the service and supply of aircraft and aircraft parts. Our many distributorships include aircraft, aircraft engines, propellers, parts and accessories. Market Area The entire Sub Saharan African market including the Indian Ocean Islands. Placo Ownership The only two Shareholders of Placo are Jeffery A Earle and Laurence M Nestadt Jeffery A Earle, CEO, has been active in aviation for 50 years. He qualified as a pilot in the South African Air Force and continues to fly regularly in the South African Air Force Reserve where he holds the rank of Colonel. Jeff's academic qualifications are business and accounting which has served him well in his business career. Not only is Jeff a well qualified aviation CEO but he is also an active aviation enthusiast. He took the reins of Placo in March 2001. Laurence M Nestadt, has a long successful corporate career, both in South Africa and internationally. Larry is a co-founder and former executive director of Investec Bank Limited. He assisted in the creation and strategic development of a number of listed companies such as Capital Alliance Holdings Limited, Super Group Limited, Hosken Consolidated investments Limited, SIB Holdings Limited and Global Capital Limited. Larry is a respected member of the South African business community and his strategic vision and experience contributions significantly to Placo's board. Location
